Reasons Women Gain Weight During Periods

Water Retention

Increased levels of estrogen and progesterone can cause the body to retain more water, resulting in temporary weight gain.

Increased Food Cravings

Many women experience increased hunger and cravings for high-calorie foods, especially those high in carbohydrates and sugar.  Giving in to these cravings can lead to excess calorie intake and potential weight gain.

Some women may experience changes in bowel movements during their menstrual cycle, which can include constipation.  This can cause temporary weight gain due to the buildup of waste and stool in the digestive system.

Emotional Factors

Some women may experience mood swings, irritability, or emotional eating. Which can lead to overeating and weight gain.

Decreased Physical Activity

Decreased exercise and movement can contribute to weight gain or difficulty maintaining weight during this time.
